Pakistan U-19 vs. South Africa U-19 ODI Series One of our famous sports and the most viewed sport in Pakistan is cricket. Cricket is loved by everyone in Pakistan. From the Government official to a local citizen almost everyone enjoys cricket in Pakistan and its one sport where everyone in the country is united and keeps supporting the players that are giving their best to make their country proud. Recently Pakistan International Cricket team joined the Cricket World Cup 2019 in which they did not qualify for the semis but the morale of the players was high throughout the tournament. Pakistan cricket team did not perform well in the first stages of the tournament but they did well in the second half of the tournament winning 4 matches and having a 4 matches win streak against and beating the top class teams like South Africa and New Zealand but unluckily team Pakistan didn’t qualify due to NRR (Net Run Rate).
On the other hand our young generation and top class youngsters the U-19’s were touring South Africa U-19’s for a One Day International series of 7 matches. When the youngsters heard about the lost from West Indies they were disappointed but they never let that falter them or the team. Now the young team has to show some promise and bring back some lost pride for the country cricket.
The young U-19 team stood up and they promised to bring back the pride with some strong commitment. The young and fresh blood of U-19’s played the best of best cricket and won all the 7 games in their tour. In the 1st Match, Abbas Ali scored 53 off 68 balls and took 2 wickets showing an all-round performance while his partner Haider Ali scored 60 off 52 balls to set a fighting target of 226 runs in 50 overs. South Africa team fell for 209/9 in 50 overs. The 2nd Match was won by Pakistan in which the bowlers showed a great performance with Naseem Shah and Akhtar Shah having 3 wickets each to restrict South Africa for 215 all out in 44 overs. In the batting department Rohail Nazir scored a fighting knock of 67 off 81 balls and Haris Khan scoring 60 off 53 balls to chase down South Africa’s target. 3rd Match was a high scoring one regardless of Pakistani bowlers Abbas Afridi taking 4 wickets for 40 runs in 9 overs and Shiraz Khan having 3 for 66 runs, South Africa set a target of 276 runs in 50 overs. However, Pakistani batsmen showed a pure class with Haider Ali hitting an unbeatable century with 116 runs off just 111 balls and Fahad Munir sharing a score of 50 off 43 balls chasing down the target of South Africa in just 42.1 overs. Pakistani batsmen showed no signs of mercy on the South African bowlers in the 4th Match of the ODI series as Pakistan set up a huge target of 341/8 in 50 overs with Rohail Nazir scoring 89 off 91 balls and Haris Khan 62 off 41 balls. South Africa were all out for 253 runs in 43 overs with bowlers Naseem Shah and Amir Ali taking 4 wickets each. In 5th Match Pakistan again hit the 300 runs mark with the Centurion Irfan Niazi shining at the top with the score of 122 of 125 balls with Rohail Nazir scoring 52 off 56 balls. South Africa were totaled off 184. Pick of the bowlers were Naseem shah taking 3 wickets and Mohammad Wasim with 2 wickets. In the Sixth match batsmen Rohail Nazir scored 74 off 94 balls and Mohammad Basit ali scoring 73 off 96 balls taking the Pakistan score to 282 and bowlers were again relentless with Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Abbas taking 2 wickets each and bowling south Africa all out for 222 runs off 48 overs.
Now for the last match when they heard about team Pakistan not qualifying for the semi-finals they were upset but this made them stronger than they already were. They thrashed the South African Under-19 team in a jiffy in there last ODI match , the 7th match which was a hard pill to swallow but the young generation played the best cricket and showed some promising as well. The Man of the match Mohammad Haris scored an Unbeaten Half Century and also taking 2 crucial wickets to lead Pakistan under 19 team to a 7 wicket relentless victory. Chasing a target of 183 runs Pakistan Under-19 achieved the target in the 38th over with Haris hitting 8 fours and 1 six in his 55 balls 69 runs.
Pakistan Captain Rohail Nazir who was named player of the series said in an interview “I am really happy that we are playing consistently good cricket in the last four weeks. Our team has performed well in all departments of the game, and we have completed a clean sweep in the series. I am satisfied over my personal performance as I was declared best player of the series in last month’s Sri Lanka series and now against South Africa.”
Pakistan won 7 match one day series whitewashing South Africa by 7-0.
